 Course Purpose

The Purpose of this course is to provide guidance and tools to prepare for deployment to emergency responses in a WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) role, with a focus on sanitation. It will ensure an understanding of the interdisciplinary humanitarian action.

 Learning Outcomes

Upon Completion of the course, learners should be able to:

Describe the history of humanitarian aid, key elements of the legal context and key sectors of humanitarian assistance, and apply humanitarian principles and work within the framework and coordination of humanitarian assistance;
Describe the stages of humanitarian aid and recognize the main actors of the international relief system and their respective mandates;
Explain the key environmental sanitation needs and approaches common in emergency situations;
Compare the suitability of different technical options depending on the phase of emergency and variety of practical settings, adjusting to time and resources available;
To implement a specific sanitation solution in an emergency situation
Plan, implement and monitor a sanitation response to a disaster situation
Integrate and apply the theory in a case scenario

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate Degree in Public health, Sanitation, Environmental Engineering, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Civil Engineering, Water Engineering or any other relevant Degree.

 

NB: Professionals working in Humanitarian context, WASH, Women, PWDs are encouraged to apply.

 

Mode of Study: Online

Tuition Fee: Charges: KES 15,000.

Course Duration: Two weeks (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
